Getting to know: Liv Gough

Up next in the series is Liv Gough, an enterprising wicket-keeper batter from Tenbury Wells who’s been playing for the club ever since she was 10 years old. 

So, with the start of the 2026 season mere weeks away, we decided to ask her a selection of quickfire questions to find out more about her early cricketing journey here in the Midlands as well as the highlights from her time at Worcestershire so far.

Here’s what she had to say:

So Liv, what are your earliest cricketing memories, either playing or watching the great game?

Some of my earliest cricketing memories would be standing on the boundary with my parents watching my brother play at my local club and then eventually starting to play at school at around the age of 8.

And who inspired you the most to continue playing cricket in those formative years?

I was lucky enough to go to a school where they were constantly pushing participation in all sports, but I had a coach who was particularly interested in driving girls cricket and eventually went onto reward me with a place in the Boys 1st XI team, so I feel having that support and opportunity was what kept me motivated. 

Why did you choose to become a wicketkeeper?

I honestly remember being about 10 or 11 years old at the time, and during a County session the coach, Kelly, had asked if anyone wanted to give wicket keeping a go and I volunteered. 

Favourite aspect of wicketkeeping?

For me, there is nothing better than taking a stumping - especially during high-pressure situations - but I'm also a naturally energetic person, so I love being able to partake in a job that has a say in driving the energy of the team I'm playing with.

Which village/league clubs have you represented over the years?

So I started playing cricket at school from around the age of 8, where I continued to play school cricket through to the age of 18. Then roughly a year after I moved home, I joined Ludlow Cricket Club where my brother was playing, and Astwood Bank cricket club where I play my women's cricket. 

When did you first start playing for Worcestershire?

I started playing for Worcestershire in 2014, at the age of 10.

What would you say is the biggest highlight from your time in a Worcestershire shirt to date?

My highlight in a Worcestershire shirt would be being able to play at Headingley. It means a lot being able to play for Worcestershire, so being lucky enough to be able to play at somewhere like that is really special and never to be taken for granted.

Favourite county to play against?

I honestly wouldn't say I particularly have one yet, as the teams we play in Tier 2 have only become our oppositions in the last year or so. But before the changes I would have said Warwickshire.

Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of cricket?

Outside of cricket, I generally spend my time with my family and friends, going to the gym, or reading a good book.

What's been the proudest accomplishment of your life so far?

I would say one of my proudest accomplishments would have to be playing 2 seasons in Melbourne and travelling New Zealand enabling me to do things like skydiving and the Nevis Swing during that time. I always remember wanting to travel to Australia and New Zealand as a young child so I love that cricket helped me achieve this.

Are there any other interesting facts about you, cricket or indeed non-cricket related, that people might not already know?

I'm a shopaholic, however if you're someone who knows me personally this is something you will probably already know!

What are your aspirations for the upcoming county season?

My biggest aspiration for this season would be being able to play a little bit more carefree cricket, and take every game and every ball as it comes. I’d like to have a successful campaign with the girls at Worcester and push us closer to Tier 1 cricket as well.
