Assistant coach Kadeer Ali believes that a ruthless streak is what Worcestershire need to show to reassert themselves in County Championship cricket.
The Pears experienced a truly mixed season in 2025 with the joy of lifting the Metro-Bank Cup combined with the disappointment of relegation to Division Two in the championship.
Their objective this season is to continue their advances in white- ball cricket while challenging hard with the red ball for promotion straight back to Division One. To do the latter, says Kadeer, they must find the ability to press home advantages when on top in games.
“The year we got promoted we managed to win a number of games when the odds were against us,” he said. “Last season we were ahead after Day Two in quite a lot of games but didn’t take advantage of those positions. We had a bad hour or a bad half-day which really cost us, so that is something we are looking hard at. When we are ahead of the game, can we keep our foot down and take advantage? Coming from behind and showing the character needed to do that is great, but being ahead and then getting over the line is just as important.
