A great win and a very strong team performance at Lord's, says Adam Finch

To bowl them out for even a small first innings lead was great in terms of momentum and then Dan Lategan and Jake Libby’s batting was very impressive. In their different ways, they put on a century stand in a low-scoring match - that says it all. That partnership on a tricky pitch was massive in the game and really put us in the driving seat.

Adam Finch

Hello Pears fans…I hope you were happy with the performance against Middlesex. Our first win is on the board!

Lord’s is an incredibly special place with a history and an aura that no other ground has got. To go there and win in three days just made it an amazing few days for everybody. It was the first time I have played there and it was a brilliant experience although, of course, I had to watch the third day from the players’ balcony after late on the second day I went out as nightwatchmen and ducked into a bumper. It hit my shoulder and then the grille of my helmet, and I felt completely fine at the time and batted on. I thought my shoulder took most of the impact. The physio went out and did the normal checks, but later in the evening I felt a bit funny and when I had a concussion test next morning, I didn’t pass it, so had to stand down.

That was frustrating for me but still, it was a great performance by the team and just the reaction we wanted after the draw at Derby. I was pleased to contribute a few runs and some wickets in the first innings. As a bowling group we wanted to take some lessons from Derby and collectively we did that. Olly Hannon-Dalby came in and brought a lot to our group in terms of calmness, ideas and experience. It was great to talk to him about bowling at different venues and swing and seam. We’ve been very lucky to have him.
