Owen Roberts, an MA Broadcast Journalism student at the University of Sheffield, is an aspiring journalist and massive Worcestershire fan. A member at New Road since he was 11, Owen played club cricket locally, for Droitwich, and will be contributing articles and interviews to King Pears about his beloved home county throughout the season.
The 2026 County Championship season is underway, and Worcestershire have picked up 28 (but really 30) points from their opening two games, positioning them third in the Division Two table, so what have we learnt so far?
The two games have been of contrasting styles, a high scoring game at Derby where the average length of innings was 118 overs, and a low scoring match at Lord’s where no-one made it to three figures and the average length of innings was just 68 overs. All things considered, I think we would have taken this, some fighting spirit on Easter Monday in the East Midlands followed by a first win at the home of cricket for 16 years.
